Earth Day

Posted by Robert Johnson on

Today Apple alerted on our iCalendar that Earth Day, April 22nd, is coming up! Not too many are aware German Audio Tech, LLC. is a very environmentally friendly company. Since the beginning our mission was to keep as many OEM electronics devices as possible fully working, in their cars and out of landfills!

"And while recycling is increasing, according to the EPA, currently about 60% of discarded electronics end up in the trash. While many states are passing laws to prevent e-waste from going into their landfills and incinerators, it’s still legal to trash electronics in many states.  This is problematic because the hazardous chemicals in them them could leach out of landfills into groundwater and streams. Burning the plastics in electronics can emit dioxin. Out of 3.14 tons of e-waste generated in the U.S. in 2013, 1.87 million tons went into landfills and incinerators (60%) and only 1.27 million tons (40%) was recovered for recycling.  However, a significant amount of that 40% was exported." - Electronics Take Back Coalition*

German Audio Tech started when our owner found that the radio from 1992-1995 (E36) 3-Series cars was commonly dysfunction. When he went online to find a replacement most of the stereos purchased were also defective. This was quite irritating, considering they were advertised as fully working devices, however it became obvious that there was a huge problem that needed a solution! During the summer of 2005 he began disassembling these faulty radios purchased online and discovered how to fix them! From here, services and products to repair commonly defective automotive electronics became the mission of German Audio Tech. We now service dozens of components across most automotive manufacturers.

Since 2007, we would estimate we have keep dozens of tons of eWaste out of landfills all over the world. More importantly, the electronics we do not have use for are given to local eWaste drives and recycled weekly using the Long Beach Recycling Program. We are proud to do our part and believe it is our duty as good stewards to the environment to make this a priority.

Until next blog post, be happy and drive safely!
